Accessibility and ratings

See how we rate

Heads-up: about a quarter mile from the garage. The nearest garage, at 128 Exchange Street, is about a quarter mile from the Fordyce entrance, and you cross Central Ave., "which can be heavily trafficked," on ramped crosswalks (NPS: Hot Springs accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026). A visitor called it "a quick walk" (TripAdvisor review, Jan 17, 2024 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]).

Heads-up: no ramp at the Promenade's south end. "There is no ramp access on the southern end of the block near Reserve Street" (NPS: Hot Springs accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official]). A wheelchair traveler agrees: "Steps provide the only access at the south end" (Rolling in an RV, May 12, 2018 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]). Use the ramps behind the Fordyce or at Fountain Street.

Heads-up: Fordyce hallways can be tight. "Hallways in the Fordyce can accommodate most wheelchair sizes with widths ranging from 31 to 38 inches" (NPS: Hot Springs accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official]). A wheelchair traveler found "Some of the hallways at the Fordyce where exhibits are located are very narrow making it difficult for visitors in wheelchairs to maneuver if other visitors are also in the hallway" (Rolling in an RV, May 12, 2018 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]).

Heads-up: manual restroom doors. The Fordyce's basement restrooms have manual doors, including the single family restroom (NPS: Hot Springs accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official]).

Heads-up: the Whittington Trail is gravel. It's a "1.2 mile flat, unpaved gravel loop," and "There are no restrooms available at Whittington Park" (NPS: Hot Springs accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official]). Our team's guidance: Packed gravel is usually manageable with power chairs and scooters; loose or deep gravel, with wheeled walkers or manual chairs, can be difficult to impassable.
