Birmingham Zoo

Provisional guide: the zoo's official pages describe entry, restrooms, parking, sensory and low-vision support, but they don't say which paths are steeper, and leave the scooter policy unclear for personal mobility devices. We'll update this guide as we confirm more.

At Birmingham Zoo, there's a ramp at the main entrance, and the train and carousel are wheelchair accessible. You can rent a wheelchair, borrow a free sensory bag or weighted lap pad, and request a free V.I.P. bag of objects to touch, hear and smell (Birmingham Zoo mobility (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026; Birmingham Zoo sensory (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026; Birmingham Zoo low vision (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).

Please confirm before you go: prices and policies can change, so check the zoo's accessibility page (opens in new tab) or ask at the front entrance before your visit.

Entry scores 5 (Venue states accessible): there's a ramp at the main entrance. Paths scores 4: the zoo says it is wheelchair accessible but discloses that "some pathways feature grades that are steeper than others," so we take off a wheel. Restrooms score 5: family restrooms that accommodate wheelchairs are at the Primate Building and Safari Peak. Parking scores 5: accessible spaces are in the main lot. Both also rest on the zoo's statement that "Birmingham Zoo is wheelchair accessible." The four scores average 4.75, which rounds to 5, but because the zoo states a barrier, Overall is capped at 4.5 of 5.

Ratings tagged "not personally verified" rest on information the venue published or on trusted firsthand reports; we have not personally verified them.
