What to check before you go
The Forest Service confirms the Skyway is a 43-mile National Scenic Byway and that there's no fee. It also notes no potable water, so bring your own, and that camping isn't allowed within 300 feet of the road. The Forest Service says restroom information isn't available. Other sources mention a driving time of about 2 hours, roughly 15 overlooks, and restrooms at the visitor center in Tellico Plains, Turkey Creek and Hooper Bald, but none of that is confirmed, so check with the Forest Service before you plan restroom stops.
- Restrooms and accessible stops: ask the Forest Service which restrooms are open and accessible this season.
- Road status, especially on the NC side: USFS Cherohala Skyway page (opens in new tab).
- Fall color timing: there's no official foliage report for the Skyway.
