Jekyll Island Beaches
Checked on Oct 16, 2026
Provisional guide: two beach-wheelchair phone numbers are in circulation (we use the official one), and the beach mats at two crossovers may not always reach the hard sand. Restrooms and parking aren't verified yet. We'll update this guide as we confirm more.
Jekyll Island lists four accessible beach crossovers (Jekyll Island beach accessibility page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026):
- Oceanview Beach Park, crossover #26
- Great Dunes Park, crossover #32
- Beach Village, crossover #38
- St. Andrews Beach, crossover #67
Free beach wheelchairs: the island has "beach-going wheelchairs available for use at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis," with "balloon tires and safety belts." Call 912.635.2648; chairs are "delivered to (and picked up from) any of the accessible beach access points between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., weather permitting," and photo ID is required (Jekyll Island beach accessibility page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026).
Heads-up: call ahead for a beach wheelchair. The island's official process is to call 912.635.2648 and have one delivered to an accessible access point (Jekyll Island beach accessibility page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026). Call ahead rather than expecting chairs on site.
Call to confirm before you go: call 912.635.2648 to book a beach wheelchair and ask which crossover suits the day's tide (Jekyll Island beach accessibility page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026). Conditions change with tides and weather.

- Heads-up: call ahead for a beach wheelchair
- Heads-up: beach mats may stop short
Plan your visit
- Reaching the hard sand: "The ramp at St. Andrews Beach provides access directly to the hard-pack sand" (Jekyll Island beach accessibility page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Oceanview Beach Park: "a wheelchair-accessible observation deck with two ADA-accessible benches" (same page), for a beach view without going onto the sand. The island lists "ADA accessible parking, restroom, and beach access, including a balcony-style overlook" there (Jekyll Island beaches page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Georgia Sea Turtle Center: "open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m." (Georgia Sea Turtle Center page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026). We found no official accessibility information for the center, so it isn't rated here.
Heads-up: beach mats may stop short. "because of the large tidal differentials and shifting dunes ... the mats at crossovers #32 and #38 may not always reach the hard pack sand" (Jekyll Island beach accessibility page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026). St. Andrews Beach (#67) has a ramp to the hard-pack sand.

Accessibility and ratings
What we found
- Crossovers: four named accessible crossovers; ramp to hard-pack sand at St. Andrews; mats at #32 and #38 "may not always reach the hard pack sand" (Jekyll Island beach accessibility page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Beach wheelchairs: free, delivered, first come, first served; call 912.635.2648 (same page).
- Oceanview Beach Park: accessible observation deck with two ADA-accessible benches (same page); "ADA accessible parking, restroom, and beach access, including a balcony-style overlook" (Jekyll Island beaches page (opens in new tab), [Official], Checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Second sources: AARP, Jul 28, 2023 (opens in new tab) ([Secondary]) names the same four crossovers, "using mats or a ramp," and the Oceanview overlook. At Great Dunes (crossover #32), a visitor wrote: "There is a wheelchair ramp/pad that goes out over the dune by the picnic table area" (TripAdvisor review, Nov 2024 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]); the official caveat that the mats there may not always reach the hard sand still applies. For beach wheelchairs we describe only the official call-and-deliver process.
Details not published
- Accessible parking and restrooms at crossovers other than Oceanview (Oceanview's are listed officially but not yet confirmed by a second source).
- Any official accessibility information for the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.

| Category | Rating |
|---|---|
| Overall | Average of the 3 rated categories. |
| Entry & Arrival | Facility-published info states it is accessible; we have not personally verified this. The island names four accessible crossovers; AARP (Jul 2023) names the same four, "using mats or a ramp." |
| Getting Around / Paths | Facility-published info states it is accessible; we have not personally verified this. St. Andrews has an official ramp "directly to the hard-pack sand," an accessible route to the beach, so the mats at #32 and #38 are a Heads-up with no cut or cap. AARP (Jul 2023) is the second source. |
| Restrooms | Not verified The island lists "ADA accessible … restroom" at Oceanview Beach Park, but that is a single source; no visitor reviews of Oceanview exist to check it against. |
| Parking & Drop-off | Not verified The island lists "ADA accessible parking" at Oceanview Beach Park, but that is a single source; no visitor reviews of Oceanview exist to check it against. |
| Staff & Info | Official beach accessibility page with free delivered beach wheelchairs and a booking line (912.635.2648); AARP (Jul 2023) confirms beach wheelchairs. We have not personally verified this. |
Entry, Paths and Staff & Info score 5. The island's official pages describe four accessible crossovers, a ramp to the hard-pack sand at St. Andrews, and free delivered beach wheelchairs; AARP backs them up. The mats at #32 and #38 may stop short of the hard sand, but St. Andrews gives an accessible route, so that's a Heads-up. The island also lists accessible parking and a restroom at Oceanview, but that's a single source, so Restrooms and Parking are Not verified. Overall is 5 of 5, the average of the 3 rated categories.
Ratings tagged "not personally verified" rest on information the venue published or on trusted firsthand reports; we have not personally verified them.
