What we found
From Ripley's official pages

- Sensory support: free noise-cancelling headphones and sensory bags are available at Guest Services (Sensory Night (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 15, 2026).

Firsthand report: Cory Lee
Cory Lee, a wheelchair user, wrote about the aquarium in a post dated Feb 10, 2021. He says he has "visited numerous times." The post was commissioned: "Hotels.com asked me to share these accessibility suggestions for Gatlinburg" (Curb Free with Cory Lee, Feb 10, 2021 (opens in new tab), [Trusted firsthand source], checked Oct 16, 2026). He reports:
- "wide, easy access pathways" through the 85,000 sq ft aquarium;
- guest services lends standard wheelchairs: "stop by the guest services desk and they will be more than happy to loan you one at no charge." You can also bring your own;
- touch tanks. Check that they're open when you visit.
Conflicting details
- Wheelchairs: is there a charge? The aquarium says only "Wheelchairs are available at Guest Services," without saying whether there's a charge (aquarium page, Accessibility section (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026). Other sources don't settle the cost: Cory Lee and TheSmokies.com describe the loaner wheelchairs as free, while Accessible America says "Wheelchairs are available for rental at Guest Services on a first-come, first-served basis" (Accessible America (opens in new tab), [Secondary], undated, checked Oct 16, 2026). Call the aquarium at (865) 430-8808 to ask whether there's a charge for a wheelchair. A ticket listing says wheelchairs are first come, first served and need a government-issued ID (Tripster (opens in new tab), [Secondary], checked Oct 15, 2026).
What other sources report
- Check this (secondary source): elevated entrance. TheSmokies.com says "The aquarium entrance is elevated above the street, but there is both ramp and elevator access to reach the top," with elevators and ramps between levels. It also calls Ripley's attractions "fairly old" but remodeled (TheSmokies.com (opens in new tab), [Secondary], checked Oct 15, 2026).
-
Check this (secondary source): Accessible America says the touch tanks can be reached from a seated position and the tunnel walkway is accessible. Its listing is generic and low confidence (Accessible America (opens in new tab), [Secondary], checked Oct 15, 2026).
-
Check this (official, 2023): accessible parking in the garage. During its 2023–24 renovation of the Aquarium Parking Garage, the City of Gatlinburg said "Handicap accessible parking, which is on the ground floor will be reserved each day," and that disabled visitors can be dropped off "at a drop off area before entering the garage" (City of Gatlinburg, Aug 15, 2023 (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026). That notice was about the renovation period, so confirm the current setup.
Not verified
- Restrooms: the company policy says they're accessible, but where they are and how many there are isn't published.

Ripley Entertainment's dedicated accessibility policy says all areas can be reached by elevators and ramps and have accessible restrooms, so Entry and Restrooms score 5 (Venue states accessible). Paths scores 5: the aquarium is a building, the official policy covers every area, Cory Lee describes "wide, easy access pathways," and no official source shows a barrier. Parking scores 5 (Trusted source states accessible): the City of Gatlinburg, which owns the garage behind the aquarium, says "Handicap accessible parking, which is on the ground floor will be reserved each day" (City of Gatlinburg (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026). That notice, dated Aug 15, 2023, covered the City's 2023–24 renovation of the garage, with work ending in early 2024. The aquarium's page still mentions construction, which may be out of date, so call the aquarium at (865) 430-8808 to confirm parking before you go. Staff & Info scores 3 for loaner wheelchairs at Guest Services: the aquarium doesn't say whether there's a charge, so call ahead to ask. Overall is 4.5 of 5, the average of the 5 rated categories.
Not accessible: combo-ticket add-ons. Ripley's Mountain Coaster and Super Fun Park, sold as combo-ticket add-ons, are not ADA accessible (Ripley's Believe It or Not! Gatlinburg FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 15, 2026). This doesn't affect the aquarium itself.
Ratings tagged "not personally verified" rest on information the venue published or on trusted firsthand reports; we have not personally verified them.
