Checked on Oct 22, 2026 (facts carry the date each source was last checked, mostly Oct 15–16, 2026)
Call to confirm before you go. Parks and attractions change hours, routes and closures, and the Smokies change with the weather. Every stop on this plan has at least one part of the visit we couldn't confirm. Call each place before you go, and tell them what you need. For the park, call (865) 436-1200 (NPS accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).
This plan links Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Tennessee side of Great Smoky Mountains National Park through the places where we have the clearest accessibility information so far. It isn't a list of everything in the Smokies. Some well-known places are left off because they don't publish enough about access for us to say anything useful yet.
A note on our ratings: each stop shows its Overall rating out of 5. A note in brackets, such as "staff help not yet confirmed," names the categories we couldn't verify yet.

Its grade and width aren't published.
- Free all-terrain chairs: the park lends GRIT Freedom Chairs in adult and child sizes at no charge here and at Oconaluftee. Users need core strength and head control, the weight limit is 250 lb, and a companion must come along. The park's pages give different reservation dates, so confirm before you go (NPS trail access information (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Parking tags: vehicles with a disability placard or plate don't need a park parking tag (NPS accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).

Day 3: Cades Cove
Cades Cove Visitor Center and Cable Mill area: 4.5 of 5 · Very accessible (staff help not yet confirmed)
The Cades Cove Loop Road is "open sunrise to sunset each day," and the Wednesday vehicle closure typically runs only May through September (NPS Cades Cove (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026). About halfway around, accessible parking sits near the sidewalk to ADA restrooms, and a ramp leads into the visitor center. No historic building in Cades Cove is ADA accessible, but you can see many of them from the car, and the Cable Mill paths are hard-packed gravel (NPS accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official], page updated Jun 10, 2026, checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Other way across the park: Newfound Gap Road runs to the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in North Carolina, which also has ADA parking, outside ADA restrooms and a one-level building, open year-round except Dec 25 (NPS accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 15, 2026). See our fall drives guide for that route.
- Check the park's road and facility closures (opens in new tab) the morning you go ([Official]).
