Raven Run Nature Sanctuary (Lexington)
Checked on Oct 16, 2026
Provisional guide: Restrooms and parking aren't verified yet. We'll update this guide as we confirm more.
Raven Run, run by the City of Lexington, has paved trails plus a staff-guided Action Trackchair program. The city says the chair "allows visitors to access an additional five miles of unpaved trails at the park" (Lexington Parks & Recreation trackchair news (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).
Call to confirm before you go: call Raven Run at 859-272-6105 (Raven Run (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026) before you go, especially for trackchair times and parking. Conditions can change.
- Paved paths
- Track chair available
- Heads-up: shade
- Heads-up: the city's pages disagree on the Discovery Trail
Plan your visit
- Freedom Trail: "a paved, barrier-free trail located beside the parking lot," roughly 1 mile long (Raven Run (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Discovery Trail: described as a "Paved, ADA compliant trail" by the nature center, leading to Prather Homestead (same page).
- Trackchair hikes: guests "will be accompanied by a staff member" and can choose between routes "depending on weather and trail conditions" (same page). Reservations are listed for Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10 a.m.–noon or 2–4 p.m. (same page).
- Winter schedule: the city's booking page lists only Saturday 2–4 p.m. slots from Nov 7, 2026 (Lexington trackchair booking (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026). No end date is posted for this winter, so call to confirm times.
- Cost: free. Each slot on the city's booking page lists "Cost$0.00" (Lexington trackchair booking (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Busy days: the city says admission closes "during high visitation until parking spots become available" (Raven Run (opens in new tab), [Official]).
Another trackchair option in Kentucky: Wheelable Wilderness (Bowling Green). This nonprofit lends adaptive equipment and says, "All of our Inventory is $0 to rent for a 2-week period" (Wheelable Wilderness equipment hub (opens in new tab), [Trusted], checked Oct 16, 2026). A WBKO news report described renting out an Action Track wheelchair (WBKO, Apr 6, 2026 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]); the group's own site uses "rent" for these $0 loans. It delivers within about 200 miles of Bowling Green, lists Lexington at 150 miles, and schedules delivery "2 weeks in advance," with some rural areas possibly excluded (Wheelable Wilderness delivery map (opens in new tab), [Trusted], updated Apr 29, 2026). No page we found names Raven Run or any Lexington park as a delivery spot. Call (270) 702-6407 to confirm before you plan around it.

Accessibility and ratings
What we found
From the City of Lexington
- "While the park offers two paved, accessible trails, the new program expands access" (trackchair news (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).
- Freedom Trail: "paved, barrier-free," "beside the parking lot" (Raven Run (opens in new tab), [Official]).
- "Users will be accompanied by a guide who is able to offer assistance with the chair" (trackchair news (opens in new tab), [Official]).
From visitors
- "We went on the paved trail" (TripAdvisor, May 27, 2021 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]).
- "The visitors center has restrooms in the back" (TripAdvisor review, Aug 31, 2025 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]). Their accessibility isn't stated.
Heads-up: shade. "The trails available to use with the Action Trackchair don't offer a lot of shade" (Raven Run (opens in new tab), [Official]).
Heads-up: the city's pages disagree on the Discovery Trail. The same page calls the Freedom Trail "the only paved trail at Raven Run," while also calling the Discovery Trail paved and ADA compliant. The Freedom Trail by the lot is the route both descriptions agree on.
Heads-up: the Kentucky River overlook. We haven't confirmed a paved route to it. Ask whether the paved trails or trackchair routes reach it.
Details not published
