Checked on Oct 16, 2026
Provisional guide: the museum describes its accessible entrance, an elevator to every floor and accessible parking, but it doesn't say whether its restrooms are accessible, and we don't have a contact for access questions. We'll update this guide as we confirm more.
At Louisiana's Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge, "The handicap entrance is located near the back of the building," and "An elevator is available to take guests to each floor" (Old State Capitol FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026).
Call to confirm before you go: we don't have a confirmed phone number for the museum yet. Check the Old State Capitol FAQ (opens in new tab) before you go.

Plan your visit
- The accessible entrance: it's near the back of the building, and "a security guard will let you in" (Old State Capitol FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 16, 2026). A wheelchair traveler in 2011 described the same process: staff opened the wheelchair entrance for them (Rolling in an RV, Mar 15, 2011 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]).
- Getting between floors: an elevator serves each floor (Old State Capitol FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official]). "Took the elevator to the 2nd floor" (TripAdvisor review, May 27, 2025 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]).
- Parking: "A limited number of handicap spaces are available in the lot behind our building" (Old State Capitol FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official]).
- Restrooms: "Restrooms are located on the ground floor" (same page). The page doesn't say whether they're accessible.
Heads-up: one exhibit has steps (2011 report). In 2011, a wheelchair traveler found "Everything is accessible except for a podium with steps," where you push buttons to hear excerpts of Huey Long's speeches, and the video on the teleprompters wasn't visible from a seated position (Rolling in an RV, Mar 15, 2011 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]).
Worth your time
Checked Oct 16, 2026.
- The stained glass and the spiral staircase: "The stained glass is very nice and the staircase is awesome" (TripAdvisor review, Aug 15, 2025 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]). The staircase is to look at; the elevator serves every floor (Old State Capitol FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official]).
- Free admission: "Great museum that is free!" (TripAdvisor review, Jun 17, 2026 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]).
