Heads-up: one visitor's experience (Aug 2025). A visitor wrote: "This aquarium is not designed for people with disabilities. It is designed for walking people. Walkers use moving escalators, chairs have to fight the foot traffic to get to a hidden elevator. Do NOT attempt if you are in a wheelchair. They acknowledged their shortcomings and gave us a full refund" (TripAdvisor review, Aug 1, 2025 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]). The Aquarium states it is fully wheelchair accessible (National Aquarium accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 17, 2026); download its accessibility guide for touring routes before you go.

Heads-up: no motorized standing devices. "Due to safety concerns, Segways, scooters and other motorized, non-seated mobility devices are not allowed inside the Aquarium" (National Aquarium accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 17, 2026). Call to ask if your device is affected.

Heads-up: a broken route upstairs (Feb 2026). One visitor "never got to see the Rain Forrest as the line was too long and the way upstairs was broken" (TripAdvisor review, Feb 16, 2026 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]). Ask about the Rain Forest when you call.
