Cathedral Caverns State Park (Woodville): Visit with a plan

Checked on Oct 23, 2026

Visit with a plan: not yet rated. We haven't rated this page. The park's official pages don't describe accessibility, so none of our categories (entry, paths, restrooms, parking, staff and info) is verified. What follows is what we found and what to ask before you go.

Mobility devices and the golf cart. Venue staff told us by email (Oct 2026) that the cave isn't suitable for mobility devices, because the hills inside the cave don't meet ADA guidelines and can make devices overheat. Staff said a golf cart option is still available and must be booked by phone at 256-888-0230 (Alabama State Parks: Cathedral Caverns cave tours (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 23, 2026). Staff mentioned a 7-day booking window; ask exactly when to call when you phone. You'll need to be flexible on date and tour time because not every tour can take a cart. When you book, ask whether you'll need to transfer into the cart.

Call to confirm before you go: call 256-888-0230 (Alabama State Parks: Cathedral Caverns (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 23, 2026). Ask about the golf cart, the cave route, and the restrooms and parking at the Welcome Center.

Accessibility: what we found

Heads-up: steep inclines. Venue staff told us by email (Oct 2026) that the cave path has 10 to 12 inclines and declines of between 8 and 24 degrees, some of them about 100 feet long. Call ahead to confirm.

Heads-up: Welcome Center restrooms and parking. Venue staff told us by email (Oct 2026) that each Welcome Center restroom has a handicap stall, that there are 2 handicap parking spaces to the right of the Welcome Center (the cave is to the left of the building), and that a ramp leads into the Welcome Center. The park's pages don't say this, so call ahead to confirm.

Heads-up: a wheelchair user's visit (2017). Travel writer Cory Lee, who uses a power wheelchair, wrote in June 2017 that he toured the cave on its paved path. He noted a few steep, slippery spots, said a manual-chair user may need help on the slope at the entrance, and had friends help him on one steep section (Curb Free with Cory Lee, Jun 6, 2017 (opens in new tab), [Secondary]). His visit came before the current guidance staff described to us.
