Open questions (ask before you go):

  • Hours: the official hours are Tue–Sat 9 AM–5 PM and Sun 12–5 PM. The official FAQ says "Burritt's hours vary by season and may change for holidays and special events" (FAQ (opens in new tab), checked Oct 15, 2026). An older third-party guide lists shorter November–March hours (10 AM–4 PM), which is Not verified (Alabama State Guide (opens in new tab), secondary). The site notes it's "under construction." Check hours before you go.

What we found

From Burritt's official pages

  • Paths: "Burritt is a beautiful place that requires lots of walking. Likewise, we are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible." (accessibility (opens in new tab), checked Oct 15, 2026) "We have accessible parking and routes throughout the museum grounds." (FAQ (opens in new tab), checked Oct 15, 2026) Benches are at every cabin.
  • Heads-up: One historic building isn't ramped (per Visit North Alabama); ask staff which one. Visit North Alabama reports "The paths between buildings are paved and the historic buildings have been ramped (all but one)," and that many activity areas "are in the grass between paved paths" (Visit North Alabama itinerary (opens in new tab), [Trusted], checked Oct 15, 2026).
  • Check this (secondary source): a museum-guide website (undated, low quality) says the Historic Park has gravel paths, uneven ground, and steps into some older cabins (wonderfulmuseums.com (opens in new tab), [Secondary], checked Oct 15, 2026). This doesn't change our score.
  • Wheelchair loans (confirmed on the official accessibility page): "Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Should you need one, you may call to reserve it before your visit." Call (256) 536-2882 (accessibility (opens in new tab), checked Oct 15, 2026).
  • Parking: free, with accessible spaces (FAQ (opens in new tab), checked Oct 14–15, 2026). Van-accessible spaces aren't mentioned.

What other sources report (secondary; not verified)

  • Restrooms: an older state guide describes accessible restrooms with grab bars and front and side transfer, plus ramps and wheelchair-height drinking fountains (Alabama State Guide (opens in new tab), secondary; it mentions audiocassettes, so it's probably dated).
  • The Visit North Alabama itinerary (cited above, a trusted source) also calls the 1938 mansion "accessible."
  • Check this (TripAdvisor review, Jun 11, 2014): a visitor traveling with an older companion wrote that Burritt had a wheelchair they could use and that getting around the grounds was easy. It's a single, older report, so it doesn't change a score (TripAdvisor (opens in new tab), [Secondary], checked Oct 16, 2026).

Staff & Info Not verified

Burritt's accessibility page says: "Burritt is a beautiful place that requires lots of walking. Likewise, we are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible." (accessibility (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 15, 2026). That statement covers the whole venue, so under our whole-venue rule Entry, Restrooms and Parking each score 5 (Venue states ADA compliant). Parking also has official confirmation of accessible spaces ("We have accessible parking and routes throughout the museum grounds"); van-accessible spaces aren't mentioned, and missing details don't lower a score. Paths scores 5 (Venue states ADA compliant): Burritt reports "accessible parking and routes throughout the museum grounds," and Visit North Alabama, a trusted source, says the paths between buildings are paved. Check this (trusted source): Visit North Alabama says one historic building isn't ramped; ask staff which one. Burritt itself doesn't mention it, so it doesn't change the score. Staff & Info is Not verified. Burritt's official page confirms wheelchair loans (reservable at (256) 536-2882), but it doesn't say they're free, so they don't score under our loaner rule yet. Overall is 5 of 5, the average of the 4 rated categories. Visit North Alabama's wheelchair-user getaway piece agrees: "They have ramps throughout" (Visit North Alabama (opens in new tab), [Trusted], checked Oct 16, 2026).

Ratings tagged "not personally verified" rest on information the venue published or on trusted firsthand reports; we have not personally verified them.
