Heads-up: the basement is reached only by outdoor stairs. The studio's FAQ says "the basement is only accessible via outdoor stairs" (FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 15, 2026). Wheelchair users will miss that part of the tour. The front door, main studio and restrooms are wheelchair accessible.

What we found

From the studio's official pages

  • Accessibility: "The front door of the studio, as well as our restrooms, are wheelchair accessible. However, the basement is only accessible via outdoor stairs" (FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 15, 2026).
  • Restrooms: "Restrooms are located in the parking lot inside the wooden building" (FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 15, 2026). Heads-up: you reach them across the gravel lot. Our team's guidance: Packed gravel is usually manageable with power chairs and scooters; loose or deep gravel, with wheeled walkers or manual chairs, can be difficult to impassable.
  • Parking: "Cars can park directly in the gravel lot by the studio." RVs, motorhomes and buses can park in the grass along Tennessee St. The studio doesn't say how many accessible spaces there are (FAQ (opens in new tab), [Official], checked Oct 15, 2026).
  • Visit North Alabama says the main studio and gift shop are wheelchair accessible. Because the lot is gravel, parking near the sidewalk gives the best wheelchair access (Visit North Alabama press release, May 28, 2026 (opens in new tab), [Trusted], checked Oct 14, 2026).

What other sources report

  • Check this (secondary source): a travel blog says the tour starts in the basement, at an album wall (The Abroad Guide (opens in new tab), [Secondary], undated, checked Oct 15, 2026). If you use a wheelchair, ask staff where your tour will start.
  • The same kind of tour listing claims "ramps and elevator access to all areas." That conflicts with the studio's own FAQ, which says the basement is stairs-only, so we go with the studio ([Secondary]).

Parking scores 4: Visit North Alabama, a trusted source, says parking near the sidewalk gives the best wheelchair access.
