West Virginia
West Virginia is a state of gorges and rivers. At New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, an accessible ramp at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center leads to the first viewpoint over the gorge. Elsewhere in the park, the Sandstone Falls Boardwalk crosses two bridges to islands and observation decks with views of the falls.
In Huntington, the Huntington Museum of Art pairs its galleries with a quarter-mile paved sensory trail outside.
Check the park's alerts before you drive, and leave time to sit at an overlook.
