District of Columbia
Washington makes a good day out on wheels. The National Gallery of Art has ramped entrances on 6th Street and 4th Street, an underground moving walkway between its two buildings, and elevators to all public spaces. The National Museum of African American History and Culture reaches all its floors by elevator, ramp or escalator and lends wheelchairs at no charge.
The United States Botanic Garden marks step-free routes through its Conservatory and outdoor gardens, and an elevator climbs to the Canopy Walk. Capitol Tours from the Capitol Visitor Center are accessible, and the Library of Congress says its buildings are fully accessible.
At the National Air and Space Museum, ramps lead up both sides of the Jefferson Avenue SW entrance, and the museum says all its restrooms are accessible.
Book timed passes where they're needed, and send any access requests a few days ahead.
